know what i feel like buying?
i feel like buying a pair of 6-inch killer stilettos. i imagine that the improvement in height will make me feel incredibly confident and empowered. then, armed with that vertical privilege, i will sashay up to dear banana, look him straight at no-less than eye-level, and whisper conspiratorially, “i do not like you anymore!”. thereafter, i will throw my head back and laugh my heart out, and then walk away feeling that a load has been taken off my shoulders.
now that, that is what retail therapy is all about.

take 2, with props. the cute white clutch belongs to amirahh. the drink which da is holding is the sweet emirate laban. but uh, no it wasn’t sweet. and it wasn’t appetizing. yet the boys kept trying to challenge themselves to drink it, haha- act tough!
dom has weird taste buds. he can’t taste the difference between hummus (chickpea) and moutabel (eggplant), the worst thing was that both tasted like pizza to him. food-wise, there was too much meat. i should bring amos there someday. company-wise, hahaha it was good, i suppose. the whole thing was weird. i’ve gone out with amirahh alone and with the section, i’ve gone out with dom alone and with the sc girls, but yingda? went out with a large bunch of his batchmates of which he was one. amirahh and dom have gone out before, but never the three of us. from the start, amirahh said the combination for that night’s dinner was weird. i thought it was weird. dom thought it was weird. i wonder what da thought hahaha. i was so paranoid about the combination of people that i actually thought up of best-case and worst-case scenarios, which now all seem quite stupid but still plausible!
oh and dom ‘fessed up to da about the lightbulb-throwing incident during the previous band camp, and the look of surprise and indignation on da’s face was priceless. he stopped in his tracks with his jaws dropped, and said ‘that was you?!?!’ hahaha damn funny. dom and shaun found lightbulbs and used them to disturb da and mingxuan who were discussing things in the void deck in the dead of the night during band camp. haha. band camps always rock on hindsight, but are so irritating when you are going through it. ahhs. oh well. i miss band, im sure that much is obvious.

section characteristics
section characteristics is a topic frequently discussed between amirahh and i…and unsurprisingly, it appears that the most salient ability(?) that runs in the section is bitchiness.
let’s take a look at the ‘bloodline’ that i know of-

it is quite obvious that we have a lot of bitchy people in the section, which is damn funny. and it makes section outings damn funny too. the outings become more of a bitching/sharing-of-juicy-information session than anything else. my first taste of it happened at the saw2/coffeebean gathering during the december holidays of 2005, and i felt uncomfortable. but i guess, as time went by, i became used to it/conditioned, and now haha bitching is like the norm at section gatherings. the best thing is that most of us have similar views on everything, which makes bitching even more fun cos everybody agrees with you or something.
the disadvantage of being in a bitchy section is that you and your section get a bad rep, because some people just don’t understand how others can bitch so much about so many seemingly irrelevant things. i know how they think because i was in their shoes just some time ago when i felt uncomfortable bitching. the discomfort comes back every once in a while, whenever they bitch about somebody who is in your good books or something which you favour. whenever that happens, im glad that my section members will regard that person’s feelings and wrap up the sensitive topic/person/sport/event etc.
ah. yeah. at least we know that we’re a bitchy section and we don’t try to deny it, so haha.
poor impressions
hello wordpress ebmajor, im back. can i assume that i’ve abandoned you long enough for nobody to read? hahas. i don’t know why im so paranoid, i blog boring stuff but..oh well. guess i quite like my privacy.
i don’t know why everybody gets such poor impressions of my section mates. they really are wonderful and amazing people. i like them very much, but nobody outside the section thinks the same way as i do, and it gets rather disheartening. i can’t help but get defensive over them, because each section member is so unique and they all contribute so much.
jun was the best sl i ever had (ok seeing as i haven’t had a lot in the first place..), and he means a lot to me because he was the one who initiated section lunches and all. if not for him, i’d never really feel a part of the euphonium section. see now, how close the section is, and how regular the outings are. he was always nice, and always caring. i distinctly remember how he used to ask me frequently whether amirahh felt comfortable when she first joined the section in nov’05. admittedly, he was a good sl far greater than a band president, but you can’t blame him for having other responsibilities like olympiad and s-papers and thus not being around as often as other exco members.
yenn is often misunderstood, and therefore easily disliked by various individuals. then most others are swayed by popular opinion and there you have it, any gossip about her is usually about how fierce or bossy or tactless she is. but the yenn i know is anything but that. sure, she is bossy, she admits that she has a pure-D personality, and she wants her way sometimes. but she is sensitive to the feelings of other people as well, and i speak from experience. when i feel troubled, i can totally confide in her and trust her not to spread it or anything. and also when she gives her opinion, she is both frank and tactful. she’s the direct opposite of me, i try so much to be tactful that sometimes i either withhold the complete painful truth or tell a white lie. yenn doesn’t. she gives her opinion and helps you deal with your trouble. amazing girl. she did her job as welfare head well, she tried hard, and if people think that it wasn’t enough, i believe that it is because they are prejudiced against her due to poor first impressions, but she really is nice. actly if she reads this i think she might chide me for even bothering to defend her or something similar. but i feel like i have to say something, it is just hurtful when others have misperceptions of a good friend.
haha fiz…i barely talk to him at all. but he is always around, practicing and being this ‘tonguing-god’ inspiration. he was the one who introduced arban’s method to me, and didn’t mind lending me the book so that i could attempt to reach his standard (failed miserably, i). yeah euphos would not be the same without him, his presence is so heavily felt haha. his jokes, gossips, bitching, singing, moodswings and tonguings are just so..part of the section experience. he really rocks.
amirahh! the closest section-mate i have. maybe its because i sat next to her during combined. have you realised that most people are close to the people they sit with in concert arrangement? jun and yenn is obvious enough, then justin and yenn, amirahh and i, amirahh and fiz. some people are frightened(?) of amirahh because they perceive her as a gossip queen or a bitch or sorts, and then they just…don’t like her very much or something. they are so very wrong about amirahh. she’s such a good friend! she listens to me drone on and on about my academics and my (lack of a) love life, and actually reads all the attempts at creative writing which i ‘published’. she’s waay nice.
and now the youngest member (figuratively) in the section, justin! he makes a wonderful bitching partner, and he is so cool. somehow people don’t like him because he gives off a bad vibe or something, or perhaps his opinions are too..crisp. sharp. i guess he offends people fairly easily because of that, bit reminiscent of yenn- perhaps that is why they are good friends haha. justin’s cool okaes.
my section manages to stick together also because our opinions are fairly similar, only that some members are more expressive than others. and when our views differ, we either have mild and friendly discussions, or avoid direct confrontation altogether. i think its wonderful that we continue to have section gatherings now haha.
for memories sake, im gonna list the gatherings we had.
1 Dec 06 – section lunch at Swensen’s (yenn and jun not present), pop concert
27 Dec 06 – ‘Night at the Museum’ (i absented myself from the movie), dinner at Thai Express, drinks at TCC
6 Jan 07 – Breeks at Marina Sq, chatting at Esplanade rooftop
24 Feb 07 – fiz’s bday at Gelare PS (not a section outing per se, many others were celebrating fiz’s birthday too, and justin wasn’t around)
24 Mar 07 – Fish & Co. Wheelock (edwin came too! and brought michelle along), desserts at Big’O (jiawei contributed some new gossips heh)
5 May 07 – justin’s bday celebrated at the void deck with pizza hut (yenn and i went back, but shaheera was sick)
19-20 May 07 – impromptu section sleepover at yenn’s, macs dinner macs breakfast (fiz couldn’t make it)
currently planning next gathering, j1s to j3s. im quite excited, hahaha.
i have a nice section, and nice section members. i just wished others stopped having prejudices against them. its really depressing to hear those comments, because i know these people as friends and they are so much more than what is commonly said about them. please, give them a chance, and give yourself an opportunity to meet them before you come to any conclusion.
